Maeser Water Penetration Tester



The Maeser Penetration Test for Dynamic Water Resistance is the industry standard for determining water resistance of all types of shoe upper leathers, including those used for military applications. The Maeser Tester induces water penetration by repeatedly flexing a partially immersed 4 x 4" sample of leather in an action similar to the flex given the vamp of a shoe in actual wear. Water resistance is measured by the number of flexes required to produce initial water penetration and by the amount of water absorbed in the sample during the test.

Easy Operation:

Koehler K55000 Series Maeser Testers feature multiple sample capability and fully automatic operation for maximum productivity. As many as five samples can be tested simultaneously in the Maeser Tester with no operator involvement. After the samples are loaded in the test stations, an electronic control center with digital reset counters operates the stations automatically. The control unit provides a running count of the flexes elapsed during the test and stops the station counters individually as penetration occurs in each sample. When penetration occurs in the last sample, the drive unit shuts down automatically, and the results for each test station remain on display until recorded by the operator. A built-in battery backup insures that test results for stations that have reached penetration will not be lost should power interruption occur.

Variable Resistance Setting for Treated Samples:

Some treated leathers do not register penetration electronically at the standard ASTM resistance value of 500-10,000 ohm. Since higher sensitivity in the cut-off circuit does not affect the number of flexes necessary to induce initial water penetration, Koehler Maeser Testers are equipped with a variable resistance circuit that allows for settings of up to 50,000 ohm. Exhaustive testing has confirmed that higher resistance settings allow treated samples affected by this problem to be tested accurately in the Maeser Tester.
